The Syracuse New Times did a profile piece on CFAC co-founder David MacDonald this summer.

Syracuse.com posted a slideshow of selected works from our summer exhibition "Creation and Construction: The Work of Sharif Bey and Janet B. Waters."

David MacDonald, CFAC co-founder and professor emeritus of ceramics, is featured in a current exhibition at the Everson Museum - "The Power of Pattern: New Work by David MacDonald." David was commissed by the Everson to create new work for its permanent collection. Learn more about the exhibition on the Everson website.

Executive Director Kheli Willetts was featured on NewsChannel 9's morning talk show Bridge Street to discuss An Evening of Jazz & Wine. Nancy Kelly and Josh Condon also performed. Watch the segment here.

Our Creative Arts Academy visual arts students were the subject of a feature story in The Stand, Syracuse's South Side newspaper. The students created a mural to express their feelings about the growing amount of violence among youth in Syracuse. You can read the story here.

In February, TV Land honored the art and the artists of the AfriCOBRA movement as part of its Black History Month Artist Series. CFAC artist Napoleon Jones-Henderson is a founding member of the AfriCOBRA movement. Learn more and watch video clips here.

2011-2012 Creative Arts Academy

Syracuse's premier pre-professional arts education program is auditioning for new students in grades 7-12 for fall 2011. Our goal is to provide well-rounded arts education experiences so students are prepared to continue their studies beyond high school.

This program includes free tuition and free transportation to and from Community Folk Art Center.

We will be auditioning students in the fields of Dance, Theater, and Visual Arts. You must register to audition. For more information and to register, contact Tamar Smithers, CAA Coordinator, at 315-442-2536 or tjsmithe@syr.edu.

Past CFAC Artists in the News

Eunjung Shin recently has ceramic work on display at the Gandee Gallery in Fabius, NY. "Embryonic: Recent Work by Eunjung Shin," was be on display until Feb. 27.

Elizabeth Catlett received an honorary doctoral degree in fine arts from Syracuse University on May 16, 2010. Recognized for her lifetime artistic achievements in African American, Native American and Mexican art, she was honored at the university's 156th commencement exercises.

Carrie Mae Weems recently exhibited some of her photographic works on display at the Birmingham Museum of Art and the Taubman Museum of Art in Roanoke, VA. In 2011, her work will be featured in the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.
