2018 Summer Arts & Culture Camp

Community Folk Art Center (CFAC) will sponsor Creative Arts Academy (CAA) 2018 Summer Arts & Culture Camp for two weeks: July 23 – August 3, 2018 from 10:00am - 3:00pm. Drop off will start at 9:30am and pick up will be until 3:30 pm.

Young creatives going into grades 5-8 will be immersed in a cultural journey through the arts that will help them explore their voices and engage in an examination of freedom and community.

This two-week experience will be based on principles from the Freedom Schools (created by SNCC in 1964) that promoted education meant to support young people becoming active agents in their own education.

At CFAC, we are particularly interested in exploring those principles through creative, reflective, and artistic experiences – and OF COURSE we will have fun along the way!

Experiences will include music, dance, photovoice projects, 2D and 3D art, and creative writing
that relate to cultural and personal identity. Campers will watch and analyze two films, and the session will feature a field trip each Friday to a cultural site. Lunch and snacks will be provided each day, and daily transportation to and from the Center will be available within the City of Syracuse.
