New Exhibition Features Unique Portraits of Children Awaiting Adoption

Syracuse, NY - The Community Folk Art Center, 805 East Genesee Street, Syracuse, will host the  "Heart Gallery" exhibition from November 4th through November 30th, 2006. The opening reception will be held on November 4th from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. The exhibition is a collaboration between the Professional

Photographers’ Society of Central New York and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, Syracuse Regional Office. This is the second Heart Gallery exhibition in Central New York since 2004.  Forty photographers donated their time and talents to create unique portraits of fifty-three children in foster care that are in need of a family. The Heart Gallery exhibition hopes to find adoptive families for the children participating, as well as to raise awareness around the need for foster and adoptive families here in Central New York and across the state.

Master of Ceremonies at the opening reception will be Jackie Robinson, WSTM, NBC-3 News Anchor.  Guest speakers include: Nicholas Pirro, Onondaga County Executive, Tim Green, Author and Attorney, Wendy Evers-Gordon, Ph.D. and Jane Lynch, New York State Office of Children and Family Services.  In addition, Jolie Scarantino, an adoptee, will be providing a vocal performance.

The exhibition will be on view until November 30th.  The gallery is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with the exception of the Thanksgiving holiday. Admission is free.

The following events are planned during the exhibition:
