New Exhibition Features Designs By Syracuse University Professor of Architecture

Syracuse, NY - The Community Folk Art Center, 805 East Genesee Street in Syracuse, will present the exhibition, "African - American Constructs: Designs by Scott Ruff," from October 7th through November 30th, 2006.

There will be an artist reception on Saturday, October 7th, 2006 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Regular Gallery hours are Tuesdays through Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free.

Ruff is a Professor of Architecture at Syracuse University. He received his Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture degrees from Cornell University. He is the recipient of an Alpha Chi Ro Medal for leadership and service. Prior to joining the faculty of Syracuse University, Ruff taught at Hampton University, State University of New York at Buffalo and Cornell University.  Ruff previously worked with the architectural firm of Foit - Albert and Associates.

Ruff formed Ruff Works Studio in 2003. Ruff Works specializes in research and design. One main focus of the studio is the research and cultivation of African - American aesthetics in spatial design. Ruff's publications include an article in Thresholds, "Spatial "wRapping: A Speculation on Men's Hip - Hop Fashion," and a book review in the Journal of Architectural Education, "White Papers, Black Marks." Ruff has lectured throughout the United States. His recent presentations include, "Secrets of the Cloth," "Education of an Architect: Through African - American Constructs," "Diversity in Architecture," and "Working Neighborhoods: Working the Spirit." Ruff's seminar, "Identity in Architecture, " is an exploration of identity and its relationship in the conceptualization and practice of architecture.

Ruff will deliver a gallery talk at the Community Folk Art Center on Saturday, October 28th at 12:00 p.m. Admission to the gallery talk is free.
