Community Folk Art Center Receives 501 (c) (3) Status The Community Folk Art Center, 805 East Genesee Street, Syracuse, has recently been granted 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt status under the Internal Revenue Service code. Organizations granted 501 (c) (3) status are exempt from federal income tax. Contributions made to a 501 (c) (3) organization are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law under section 170 of the Internal Revenue Service Code. In addition, organizations receiving the 501 (c) (3) status are qualified to receive tax-deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts under section 2055, 2106 or 2522 of the Code. The Community Folk Art Center was founded in 1972 and is a unit of the Department of African American Studies at Syracuse University. The mission statement of the Center states: "The Community Folk Art Center Inc. is organized exclusively for educational purposes. The Community Folk Art Center exalts cultural and artistic pluralism, by collecting, exhibiting, teaching and presenting the visual and the performing arts."
